The director promises to keep 'Pacific Rim' fans updated on the sequel, which is apparently making some progress of late.

AceShowbiz - Guillermo Del Toro took to Twitter on Thursday, October 29 to offer some "Pacific Rim 2" update. The director wrote, "PACIFIC RIM 2: Budget and script went in. No answers yet. If anything happens, I will post. If nothing happens, I will just keep rambling."

Earlier this month, Guillermo told fans that the budget for the "Pacific Rim" sequel was ready and he was waiting on a script from John Spaihts ("Prometheus"). The "Crimson Peak" director added, "Then [it] is up to the studios to give it a green light."

"Pacific Rim 2" was originally planned for 2017 but it is now put on hold indefinitely. Guillermo assured fans that the project was not canceled. "We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks," the director told EW. "As far as I'm concerned, it's not gone. We're still on it." He added that the film's delay was only temporary. "It moved further," he explained. "I may do another movie in the middle."

Universal Pictures also insisted that the movie was not canceled. "Legendary and Universal Pictures are committed to having 'Pacific Rim 2', the sequel to 2013's 'Pacific Rim', which generated more $411 million at the global box office, be the vanguard, fully-immersive experience that the franchise deserves," the studio said in a statement. "To this end, the decision was made to delay the production and release of 'Pacific Rim 2' so that the creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film."
