AceShowbiz - RJ Cyler has officially joined the cast of Lionsgate's "Power Rangers". The official Instagram account of the movie has announced that the 20-year-old actor is on board to play Billy a.k.a. the Blue Power Ranger.

Cyler will star alongside the recently-announced cast members, Ludi Lin, who is on board to star as Zack a.k.a. the Black Ranger, Dacre Montgomery, who will portray Jason a.k.a. the Red Ranger, and Naomi Scott, who will play Kimberly a.k.a. the Pink Ranger.

Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, who both penned the script of "X-Men: First Class" and "Thor", wrote the screenplay for "Power Rangers", which Israeli has described as "a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material."

The upcoming movie is based on '90s TV series, "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", in which a group of ordinary high school kids, who possess extraterrestrial powers, join forces to save the world, with the aid of giant mechanical vehicles known as Zords. It is due to hit U.S. theaters on January 13, 2017.

Cyler's recent credit was "Me & Earl & the Dying Girl", in which he made an impressive performance as the main character's best friend. He will next be seen in "War Machine" alongside Brad Pitt and on HBO's comedy series "Vice Principals".
