Chinese actor Ludi Lin has signed on to play Zack a.k.a. the Black Ranger in the upcoming Power Ranger Movie.

AceShowbiz - "Monster Hunt" actor Ludi Lin has signed on to star as Zack a.k.a. the Black Ranger in Lionsgate's "Power Rangers". Lin is the third actor who joins the cast of the movie after Dacre Montgomery, who will portray Jason a.k.a. the Red Ranger, and Naomi Scott, who will play Kimberly a.k.a. the Pink Ranger.

Same as Montgomery, whose name did not appear on the recently-rumored "Power Rangers" shortlist, Lin was not in contention for the Black Ranger. The candidates to take the role were Daniel Zovatto, Ross Butler and Brian Marc.

The upcoming movie is described as a modern reinvention of the long-running franchise. It is based on '90s TV series, "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", in which a group of ordinary high school kids, who possess extraterrestrial powers, join forces to save the world with the aid of giant mechanical vehicles known as Zords.

Dean Israelite is attached to direct "Power Rangers" with the script written by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller. Haim Saban, Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur will produce the movie which is scheduled to arrive in U.S. theaters on January 13, 2017.
