The 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' star joins the FOX sitcom in a recurring role as a pharmaceutical sales rep who rents Jess' room during the latter's jury duty.

AceShowbiz - Megan Fox is literally the New Girl on Zooey Deschanel's FOX sitcom. The show has tapped the former "Transformers" actress to fill in for the lead actress, Deschanel, while she's on maternity break.

Deschanel, who gave birth to her daughter with fiance Jacob Pechenik in early August, will be sitting out a few episodes of season 5. To fill the void, Fox will play a recurring role of Reagan, a gorgeous, straight-shooting pharmaceutical sales rep who comes to town for business. She will rent Jess' room while the latter's on jury duty.

"It's insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it," executive producer Liz Meriwether says in a statement. "I've been a fan of her comedic skills since 'This Is 40', and I'm so excited to have her on the show. We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part - she's the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up."

Series regular Max Greenfield can't hide his excitement about Fox joining the show. He tweeted, "This has been on my vision board since the pilot! #NewGirl #thesecretworks." Fox will first appear in the sixth episode.

The new season of "New Girl" launches in January 2016 and FOX plans to air all episodes without interruption.
