Fox Eyeing 'Deadpool' Sequel, Producer Simon Kinberg Teases Possible Villain

Producer Simon Kinberg revealed that the studio was already talking about a possible sequel to the antihero movie while also hinting at a particular character that might become the villain.

AceShowbiz - "Deadpool" will not hit U.S. theaters until next year, but rumors about a possible sequel have been mounting. Speaking to Collider, producer Simon Kinberg revealed that 20th Century Fox was already talking about "Deadpool 2".

When Kinberg was at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote his recent project "The Martian", the topic of the possible sequel to "Deadpool" was brought up. "We certainly are talking about the sequel. We were talking about the sequel while we were making the movie just because when you make a film like this that's from a serialized source material, you hope that it's the first of many," Kinberg shared. "But yeah [Fox is] feeling good about it, we're all feeling really proud of it, so hopefully before it comes out we will be well into the process of figuring out a sequel," the producer added.

Considering that "Deadpool 2" is very likely to happen, fans must be wondering about who will be the villain in the movie. Last month, director Tim Miller hinted that Cable might make appearance in the sequel. The rumor appears to be pretty legitimate as Kinberg seemingly confirmed that the telekinesis mutant would be the one Deadpool fights against.

"It's certainly come up because he's such a big character in the world. And it's a character that I've always wanted to do in one form or another, we talked about Cable actually in 'Days of Future Past' at one point. But yeah we're in such the early stages of sequel talk it would be genuinely premature for me to say whether or not he was gonna be in it," Kinberg said.

"Deadpool" stars Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth, Ed Skrein as Ajax, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle and T.J. Miller as Weasel. The movie is slated for a release in the U.S. on February 20, 2016, while the second film is expected to arrive in 2017.
