James Gunn Can't Use Alien Race in 'Guardian of the Galaxy 2' for Unusual Reason

The director could not put an alien species known as the Sneepers into the sequel because its name might have a bad meaning in particular language.

AceShowbiz - Director James Gunn, who put a lot of Marvel Comics character references into "Guardians of the Galaxy", seemed to encounter a problem in working on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2". He learned that he could not integrate an alien species known as the Sneepers into the sequel because of an unusual reason.

When the idea of introducing a certain character or race into a movie is refused, it's usually because the rights belong to another studio. However, Gunn had a different case. Through his Facebook page, Gunn explained the reason why he could not put the character into the upcoming movie. "While writing Guardians scripts I like to use the names of characters from the comics as much as possible - it makes watching the movie more fun for longtime Marvel fans (one of whom is me). Characters like Kraglin, The Broker, Bereet, and Garthan Saal all originally appeared in the comics, albeit sometimes in very different incarnations," he stated.

He went on telling fans that Sneeper seemed to be an unlikely candidate to appear in the movie because its name might have a sexually-explicit meaning in particular language. "Every name I use I have to run through the Marvel legal department. Lately, in the service of building out the Marvel cosmic side of the universe, I've been trying to clear names of alien species we see in the background. It's always a bummer when I can't use a name, usually because Fox or Sony or Hasbro or whomever owns the rights. But today I received a brand new reason for being advised against calling one of the alien species 'Sneepers'. 'Sneeper' is a word for clitoris in Icelandic," he added.

The Sneepers were aliens created by Stan Lee back in the '60s, and first introduced in "Tales of Suspense" #49. They had three pectoral muscles, and the females had three breasts.

The second installment of "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie series is scheduled for a release on May 5, 2017. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan and Bradley Cooper are back to reprise their respective roles.
