The 'Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation' actress is reportedly at the top of Marvel's list to play Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel.

AceShowbiz - Rumors about who will become the leading actress in "Captain Marvel" keep mounting. It was said previously that Jessica Chastain, Bryce Dallas Howard, Katheryn Winnick and Charlize Theron were in Marvel's list to play Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel. Now, the list seems to be extended as Heroic Hollywood reports that Rebecca Ferguson (II)" is at the top of the list.

It is unclear whether talks have taken place or if an offer has been made. The "Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation" star was previously considered as the female lead in "Gambit (2016)" before she finally decided to play Anna in "The Girl on the Train (2017)" with Emily Blunt.

"Captain Marvel" will center on the U.S. Air Force pilot Danvers whose DNA was fused with an alien after an accident. In the comic books, Danvers is one of Marvel superheroines who receives superhuman abilities after being caught in the explosion of a piece of Kree technology. With all abilities she has, Danvers becomes the hero known as Captain Marvel, and eventually becomes a member of the Avengers.

Kevin Feige will produce with the script penned by Nicole Perlman ("Guardians of the Galaxy") and Meg LeFauve ("Inside Out (2015)"). "Captain Marvel" is expected to arrive in U.S. theaters in 2018.
