First Look at Michael Dougherty's 'Krampus' Revealed
Movie

Four new pictures of the horror comedy movie feature the mythical creature along with the family he is going to punish.

AceShowbiz - Following the release of "The Visit" on Friday, September 4, Universal Pictures is starting to promote its next horror movie, "Krampus". Four photos of the movie have been released, giving a first look at the demonic creature.

Making its way out via USA Today, the first photo features a little boy facing off against an enormous creature which looks like a lion but has a pair of huge horns. Meanwhile, the other photos give a look at Linda (Allison Tolman), Tom (Adam Scott) and Sarah (Toni Collette), who spend their Christmas holiday with the shadow of the monstrous being.

"Krampus" is based on an old European folklore. It is the name of an anthropomorphic figure who punishes children who have bad behaviors during the Christmas season. "He's more complex and nuanced than that [evil]," director Michael Dougherty described the demon.

The director shared his thought about what can make the horror movie become frightening. "It's one thing to be terrified or enthralled when you're watching a film," the filmmaker said. "To then leave the theater and realize it's based on real myths and legends only makes it sink in even deeper."

Because of the Christmas-movie nature, Dougherty considered it necessary to include heartwarming aspects in the movie. "If you do a horror film without an emotional core, you don't really have much," he said.

The movie follows a dysfunctional family who clashes over the holidays. Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Unfortunately, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus, a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers. The horror comedy movie is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on December 4.
