Artist of the Week: Prince
Music

The singer, who recently removed his catalog from streaming services like Spotify, will make his newest album 'HITNRUN' available for streaming exclusively on Tidal starting on September 7.

AceShowbiz - After more than thirty albums in his nearly-four-decade career, Prince shows no sign of slowing down. The singer, who simultaneously released two full-lenghts including one in collaboration with his backing band 3RDEYEGIRL roughly a year ago, is coming back with a new project called "HITNRUN (Phase One)".

For the LP, Prince reunited with Joshua Welton, a 25-year-old producer who was previously credited on the Purple One's 2014 effort "ART OFFICIAL AGE". Welton, who is also the husband of 3RDEYEGIRL's drummer Hannah Welton, recently offered some insight into the forthcoming record in an interview with EW.

"I would say it's an experimental Prince record for fans who just don't care about him sounding like a certain thing," he said during a visit to Prince's fabled Paisley Park complex in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

"I know he has different types of fan bases and this is kind of for the [hardcore] Purple Collective, the ones who say 'I don't care what he puts out! I love Prince.' And because he's such a creative, it gives him that freedom to say, 'I just want to make music like this today,' " he added.

"HITNRUN" will be streamed exclusively on Tidal starting on September 7. Making it available on a particular streaming service is a pretty big deal for Prince, who has removed his music from popular sites like YouTube and Spotify among others.

Also speaking to EW, he expressed support for the Jay-Z-owned company and praised it for letting him decide how he wanted his own album to be. "Jay allowed us pick the art work, the design of the page, the related-content features," he said. "Why shouldn't you be allowed to do that when it's your music, your creation?"
