The founder of The Honest Company calls the lawsuit, which claims that the company has deceived consumers by using 'synthetic' and 'unnatural' ingredients, 'baseless and without merit.'

AceShowbiz - Jessica Alba reacted to lawsuit which claimed her natural product line, The Honest Company, has deceived consumers by using "synthetic" and "unnatural" ingredients. In a statement to PEOPLE, the actress of "The Killer Inside Me" called the lawsuit "baseless and without merit."

"We strongly stand behind our products and the responsibility we have to our consumers. We are steadfast in our commitment to transparency and openness," the statement read. "I know my children, Honor and Haven, are growing up in a safer home because of our products."

In the statement, Alba insisted that her company had labeled the ingredients in its products as accurate as possible. "We believe that consumers deserve to know what's in their products," it read. "Our formulations are made with integrity and strict standards of safety, and we label each ingredient that goes into every product - not because we have to, but because it's the right thing to do."

The 34-year-old actress also talked about the mission behind the company. "I started The Honest Company to develop safe and effective products not just for my children, but for families everywhere," read the statement. "In fact, prior to launching The Honest Company, I began lobbying Congress to require that ingredients used in everyday products are tested for safety prior to entry into the marketplace."

Consumer Jonathan D. Rubin, who filed the lawsuit, mentioned that the products made by the company contained "synthetic" ingredients which, according to studies from an environmental group, were considered to be potentially hazardous. Rubin is seeking at least $5 million for damages.
