Latest report says that the studio teams up with Chernin Entertainment to make a movie based on the fan-favorite video game character.

AceShowbiz - 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment are teaming up to make a film based on fan-favorite video game character Mega Man, The Tracking Board reports. The site also notes that "Mega Man" has already been in early development.

David Ready and Michael Finfer are overseeing the project, with Peter Chernin producing. Together they have worked on several high-profile sci-fi action movies, including "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and its sequel. Mike Ireland and Ryan Horrigan will produce for Fox.

Mega Man, originally called Rock Man in Japan, first appeared in 1987 as the main character for his own video game on the original Nintendo Entertainment System. The game has spawned a number of sequels and spin-off series.

In the story, Mega Man is a robot created by a scientist named Dr. Light. The robot was created to fight against Dr. Willy, the one who betrayed Dr. Light by stealing Dr. Light's work and made evil robot with special weapons to take over the world. Up to battle with the evil robot, Mega Man was more than ready as he can mimic his enemies' weapons. It's an advantage since certain enemies are vulnerable to other enemies' weapons.
