Vincent Cassel to Play Villain in 'Bourne 5'
Movie

The 'Black Swan' actor has been tapped to play an assassin who is on the trail of Jason Bourne in the new movie.

AceShowbiz - "Bourne 5" has found its villain. According to Variety, Vincent Cassel is set to play one of the bad guys in the next installment of the Jason Bourne film franchise. Cassel will face off against the leading actor Matt Damon in the upcoming film.

Sources say that Cassel will play a mysterious man simply known as the Asset, industry code for assassin who tracks Bourne. The character seems to play the same role as the ones portrayed by Clive Owen, Karl Urban and Edgar Ramirez in previous Bourne films.

Back in June, Viggo Mortensen was up for the villain role. With Cassel in place, it seems like Mortensen's casting didn't work out. Julia Stiles will reprise her role as ex-CIA agent Nicky Parsons with "Ex Machina" actress Alicia Vikander becoming the female lead. Meanwhile, Tommy Lee Jones will play a high-ranking CIA officer.

Details of "Bourne 5" are still scarce, but Damon revealed previously that the story would take Bourne "through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world." He also said that the film would be about "spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy," and the settings would include Greece and Las Vegas.

Paul Greengrass is back to direct and co-write the script with Christopher Rouse. Frank Marshall will once again produce the action movie alongside Jeffrey Weiner, Greengrass, Damon, Greg Goodman and Ben Smith, while Rouse and Henry Morrison serve as executive producers. "Bourne 5" is scheduled for a release in the U.S. on July 29, 2016.
