Lionsgate to Bring 'Borderlands' Video Game to Big Screen

Avi Arad is set to serve as a producer for the tentpole adaptation of the sci-fi video game taking place on the planet of Pandora.

AceShowbiz - A tentpole adaptation of the sci-fi video game, "Borderlands", for the big screen is announced. The project comes from Lionsgate, the same studio which brought "The Hunger Games" movie series and co-distributed "Divergent" film franchise with Summit.

"Borderlands" is a first-person shooter videogame developed by Gearbox Software. Launched in 2009, it takes place on the planet of Pandora where lays an ancient alien vault with great power for those who can find it. Avi Arad ("The Amazing Spider-Man") will produce it along with his son Ari Arad.

The project was announced as the studio's biggest moneymaker, "The Hunger Games", is coming to an end. The last installment of the Young Adult franchise, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2", will arrive Stateside on November 20 this year. Jennifer Lawrence leads the series.
