Jason Mitchell Joins 'Kong: Skull Island', Luke Bracey Lands Lead Role in 'Hacksaw Ridge'

The 'Straight Outta Compton' star is in talks to star in the apes movie, while 'The Best of Me' actor is set to play a main antagonist in the Mel Gibson-directed film.

AceShowbiz - Jason Mitchell, who was praised for his role as rapper Eazy-E in "Straight Outta Compton", is in negotiations to star in Legendary and Universal's "Kong: Skull Island", The Hollywood Reporter reports. The 27-year-old actor will join his "Compton" co-star Corey Hawkins, who was recently hired for an undisclosed role.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct the pic while Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce alongside Mary Parent with Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod tapped as executive producers. "Kong: Skull Island" centers on a team of explorers who venture into the mysterious, creature-laden isle that is also the home of the king of the apes. It is slated for a release in the U.S. on March 10, 2017. Other notable names in the cast are Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Toby Kebbell, Samuel L. Jackson and John C. Reilly.

In other news, Luke Bracey is set to join Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn and Sam Worthington in Mel Gibson's "Hacksaw Ridge". According to Deadline, Bracey will portray Smitty, the main antagonist and one of the leaders of Doss' platoon in the upcoming film.

The movie will be based on a true story of war hero Private First Class Desmond T. Doss (Garfield), who won the Congressional Medal of Honor even though he refused to bear arms on religious grounds. Bill Mechanic and David Permut produce the movie while the script is written by Robert Schenkkan and Randall Wallace ("We Were Soldiers"). "Hacksaw Ridge" has no official release date just yet, but it is due to arrive in the U.S. in 2016.
