'The Flash' Season 2 Will Feature Multiple Speedsters, but Still Focus on Barry

'We didn't want Barry to get lonely so we thought we'd bring in some more speedsters,' executive producer Gabrielle Stanton says of the decision to bring in other versions of the speedster.

AceShowbiz - After Reverse Flash in the first season, "The Flash" will introduce more speedsters besides Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) in the next season. The show has cast Teddy Sears as Jay Garrick, who in the comic books is the original Flash, and Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West, who in the comics later becomes Kid Flash.

"We didn't want Barry to get lonely so we thought we'd bring in some more speedsters," executive producer Gabrielle Stanton tells TVLine about introducing more speedsters. He, however, assures fans that Barry will still be the focus of the show, explaining, "It's always Barry's journey. The Flash is always about Barry, but these people who come in will show us different ways that The Flash can be."

Speaking of Jay Garrick's role, Stanton dishes, "He's going to be Barry's mentor a little bit and help him really reach his potential" as the superhero. Stanton is more secretive when talking about Wally West, but teases "a very interesting and close relationship" between Wally, Barry and the rest of the team.

Season 2 will also feature a new big bad, Zoom. "Zoom is just scary as all hell," Stanton gushes about the new nemesis. He adds, "I know a lot of people are thinking, '[Zoom and Reverse Flash] were so similar in the comics. What's going to make them different?' I guarantee no one will confuse him for one second with what we did last year. It's actually much more different than people would think."

Stanton goes on sharing, "Zoom is going to be very different in terms of motivation, in terms of what he wants from The Flash, in terms of why he's doing what he's doing."

"The Flash" returns with its second season Tuesday, October 6 at 8 P.M. on The CW. A recently released promo video offers a glimpse at the villain Atom-Smasher, who is portrayed by WWE star Adam "The Edge" Copeland.
