'Hedwig and the Angry Inch' to End Broadway Run in September

The revival of the rock musical will play its final performance on September 13 after 18-month engagement.

AceShowbiz - "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" will close the curtain for the last time next month. The Tony-winning musical revival will bid farewell to Broadway on September 13 at the Belasco Theatre at 3 P.M.

"When we announced our limited 16-week Broadway engagement of 'Hedwig', never in my wildest dreams did I think it would run for a year and a half," producer David Binder said in a press release. " 'Hedwig' heralded a historic year of acceptance and celebration across America."

Directed by Michael Mayer, the revival of the iconic rock musical officially opened on April 22, 2014 with Neil Patrick Harris in the lead role. He stayed in the production until August 17, 2014. He was replaced by Andrew Rannells, followed by Michael C. Hall, John Cameron Mitchell, Darren Criss and most recently Taye Diggs.

The show has grossed $48.4 million to date at the Belasco. By the time the Broadway show closes, it will have played 22 previews and 506 regular performances.

Next, the show will visit other cities in a national tour set to launch in October 2016 in San Francisco, while West End and Australia productions are being planned.
