During a press conference at TCA's summer press tour, The CW's president gives the actress an open invitation for her to come back.

AceShowbiz - It may not be forever goodbye for Nina Dobrev. Producers of The CW's "The Vampire Diaries" are open for the actress' return if she ever decides to come back.

Dobrev exited the show at the end of the sixth season, admitting it was a difficult decision. The series will shift its focus on the Salvatore brothers and their mother's relationship in the upcoming seventh season. Yet, there will always be a room for Elena and her dopplegangers.

"We would have loved Nina to stay," the network's president Mike Pedowitz told reporters at a Television Critics Association panel on Tuesday, August 11. "She did a great job for the six years she was on the show. She is welcome back any time she wants to come back."

Nevertheless, the writing team gets the chance of exploring other things with her absence. "They started last year - going into this coming season - focusing on [Ian Somerhalder's] Damon and [Paul Wesley's] Stefan. As you know, we've had great success doing shows about brothers," Pedowitz said, referring to "Supernatural". He added, "[And] Kat Graham and Candice Accola's characters are stepping up in ways that we are very happy with."

"The Vampire Diaries" will return to The CW in October.
