'Jem and the Holograms' New Trailer Goes More Sci-Fi With Droid
Movie

Jem (Aubrey Peeples) faces a big complicated problem when she is offered a more promising career opportunity.

AceShowbiz - A new trailer for Jon M. Chu's upcoming musical drama "Jem and the Holograms" has debuted online. While the first trailer chronicles how an ordinary girl can be a famous superstar after becoming an online recording sensation, the second trailer gives away more heartfelt scenes depicting the relationship between the titular character and her father.

After her sister uploads one of her songs on YouTube, Jerrica Benton (Aubrey Peeples) becomes an internet sensation and uses the alias Jem to hide her true identity. She and her sisters become popular after the world's biggest recording company signs their band.

The trailer also introduces Jem's robotic companion, Synergy, which was made by her father when she was kid. Synergy is a hologram-projecting computer which can play some recordings from the past which shows how big the love of Jem's father for her is.

As their career rises, everything doesn't seem to be as easy as imagined. Jem is confronted by her sisters when the company offers her to go solo. Luckily, Jem still has someone to lean on and trust.

"Jem and the Holograms" is based on the animated '80s television series. The appearance of Synergy makes the movie go more sci-fi and close to the animated version. Aurora Perrineau, Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko and Ryan Guzman are also tapped to star alongside Peeples. Written by Ryan Landels, the movie is slated for a release in the U.S. on October 23.

Following the trailer, Universal Pictures dropped a featurette which previews the animated version. It also includes interviews with people behind the film about how to turn an animated version into a live-action movie.
