Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) is a mythical frontiersman who, after being abandoned by his fellow hunters, is attacked by a bear and travels hundreds of miles to seek redemption.

AceShowbiz - The first trailer for survival-adventure tale "The Revenant" has arrived. The movie about a frontiersman who is attacked by a bear will mark the first film for which Leonardo DiCaprio collaborates with "Birdman" director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

The trailer opens with DiCaprio's character saying, "I ain't afraid to die anymore. I'd done it already." It continues with some scenes where DiCaprio's character fights against local tribe and a bear in a snowy area.

Set in 1823, the movie centers on a fur trapper named Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) who's attacked by a grizzly bear and robbed by the two men enlisted to stay with him. Fueled by anger, the trapper survives and travels more than 200 miles to look for redemption and safety.

The film was shot by Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki entirely in natural light in remote locations. "I'm now addicted to doing things that can fail horribly or maybe that can give us a surprise," director Inarritu said earlier this year.

DiCaprio stars alongside Tom Hardy ("Mad Max: Fury Road"), Will Poulter ("The Maze Runner"), Lukas Haas, Domhnall Gleeson ("Ex Machina") and Brad Carter. Besides directing, Inarritu wrote the script with Mark L. Smith. He also serves as producer along with Steve Golin, David Kanter, Keith Redmon, Arnon Milchan and James Skotchdopole. The heavy-breathtaking movie is slated for a release in the U.S. on December 25.
