AceShowbiz - AMC brought its hit series "The Walking Dead" and the upcoming spin-off "Fear the Walking Dead" to San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 10. In separated panels, the network debuted the trailers for "The Walking Dead" season 6 as well as the new series.
"The Walking Dead" season 6 trailer is dramatic and packed with zombie attack sequence. Picking up where the season 5 finale left off, it hints at the rise of Morgan (Lennie James) as a new leader in Alexandria after he saw how brutal Rick (Andrew Lincoln) could be. Interestingly, he appears to convince Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh) to take his side, and so it begins the clash with Rick's group.
The video also sees Daryl (Norman Reedus) being held hostage, possibly by a group who call themselves the Wolves. There's additionally a glimpse of a new character played by Ethan Embry.
At the panel, it was announced that former "Nurse Jackie" star Merritt Wever would join the cast for season 6, along with Corey Hawkins who was earlier tapped to play comic book character Heath. The new season will premiere on October 11 at 9 P.M. with a supersized, 90-minute episode.
Later at the panel for "Fear the Walking Dead", the first full trailer for the new show was finally unleashed. It mostly highlights a family's effort to survive amid a mysterious virus outbreak in Los Angeles. At one point, Kim Dickens' Madison gets separated from her husband Travis (Cliff Curtis) and their children when things turn chaotic on the street.
Speaking of the difference between "The Walking Dead" and its spin-off, executive producer Greg Nicotero said, "You can't really compare the two shows. 'Walking Dead' has these bigger-than-life characters: Rick, Daryl." Meanwhile, the characters on "Fear the Walking Dead" are "everyday people."
He said that the zombies would be different too, in a way that they're less decomposed than the zombies of "The Walking Dead". Nicotero described the zombies as "somebody that you are sitting next to, and you look at them, and they don't look quite well. Your instinct isn't, 'Oh, I should shoot that guy in the head.' ... You still feel the humanity there. You still see a bit of life in their eyes."
"Fear the Walking Dead" will launch with a 90-minute episode on Sunday, August 23 at 9 P.M.
