'Star Wars Episode VIII' Reportedly Eyes Donnie Yen to Play Jedi
Movie

Chinese actor Donnie Yen is reported to star in 'Star Wars Episode VIII' as Jedi, defeating other famous actors like Jet Li and Stephen Chow for the role.

AceShowbiz - Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen has reportedly landed a role in "Star Wars Episode VIII". According to a Hong Kong tabloid called Apple Daily, Yen will star in the follow-up to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as Jedi.

The source says that the role can be more than a small cameo which appears briefly in the movie. To nab the gig, Yen reportedly beat several famous Chinese actors such as Jet Li, Stephen Chow, Tony Leung, Chang Chen, Daniel Wu and Wang Leehom.

The report says that Yen will be shooting scenes with Harrison Ford as early as next month. However, this report seems to be not accurate enough as "Episode VIII" isn't anywhere near beginning production yet.

Yen is attached to other big projects such as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend", which will hit theaters on August 28. He will also be seen in next year's "Ip Man 3" alongside boxing legend Mike Tyson.

In other news, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" panel at San Diego Comic-Con will not reveal new footage. The presentation on Friday, July 10 will not include any new clips of the movie. Instead, the next trailer will be coming in the fall, according to EW's sources.

However, the panel will still give pleasure for fans as it offers a behind-the-scenes look at the highly-anticipated film. Director J.J. Abrams, screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy are confirmed to take part in the discussion which will be moderated by Nerdist impresario and "Talking Dead" host Chris Hardwick.
