AceShowbiz - Another Miss USA co-host, Jeannie Mai, has decided to quit the beauty pageant which will be held on the coming Sunday, July 12. She announced her withdrawal in a lengthy note she posted on Instagram on Monday, July 6.
Mai has been supportive to the beauty pageant as it empowered women around the world. She mentioned Donald Trump's strange behavior as one of the reasons why she stepped down from co-hosting Miss USA. She wrote, "Given Mr. Trump's ongoing antics, including his most recent episode today with the current Miss Universe, it is clear that Mr. Trump's actions have and will continue to distract focus away from the real stars of the show - the women involved in the pageant." She added, "Therefore, I am respectfully withdrawing from my responsibilities and commitment as co-host of Miss USA."
Last week, the 36-year-old makeup artist made an Instagram post announcing that she would still co-host the beauty pageant despite the exits of two other co-hosts. However, she made it clear that her decision was merely to support the women in the beauty pageant. "Last week I announced my heart-felt decision to support the women of Miss USA by remaining on board as a co-host," she said in the lengthy note. "My focus was strictly on the women involved, who share the same ethics of hard work, commitment and passion for their careers and causes that I do."
Her decision Mai made last week was because of "the impression that Mr. Trump would no longer be involved in the production of the show in any capacity what so ever." She also condemned the racial remarks made by the business magnate as saying, "Let me be clear, I condemn the recent words of Mr. Trump, and find them immensely offensive."
Despite her withdrawal from the show, she showed her support to all Miss USA participants. "Ladies, you worked so hard to get here. I am proud of who you are and wish you the best of luck Sunday evening," so she wrote at the end of the note.
Prior to Mai, co-hosts Roselyn Sanchez and Cristian de la Fuente had decided to resign from the beauty pageant last month. They made the decision following Trump's irritating remarks about Mexicans.
