Ava DuVernay Turns Down 'Black Panther' Due to Creative Differences
Movie

The 'Selma' director explains that she and Marvel didn't see eye to eye when it 'comes down to story and perspective.'

AceShowbiz - Ava DuVernay won't direct "Black Panther". Speaking to Essence in a new interview, the "Selma" director opens up that she passed on helming the Marvel movie starring Chadwick Boseman because of creative differences.

"I'm not signing on to direct Black Panther," she says. "I think I'll just say we had different ideas about what the story would be. Marvel has a certain way of doing things and I think they're fantastic and a lot of people love what they do. I loved that they reached out to me."

"I loved meeting Chadwick and writers and all the Marvel execs," the female helmer adds. "In the end, it comes down to story and perspective. And we just didn't see eye to eye. Better for me to realize that now than cite creative differences later."

The movie is planned to hit theaters on July 6, 2018. It is expected to be the first Marvel movie that puts superhero of color on a lead role.
