AceShowbiz - Comic-Con International isn't going anywhere, at least until the next three years. The show organizers have just finalized a deal to stay in San Diego through 2018. The two-year extention was announced by San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer on Thursday, July 2. He posted on Twitter, "I'm proud to announce this morning that @Comic_Con will stay in San Diego through 2018. #SDCC."
Los Angeles and Anaheim were previously lobbying to have the annual convention for fanboys moved there. San Diego mayor Faulconer, meanwhile, managed to keep the confab in the city after convincing local hotels to keep the cost down on their room rates during the convention.
Faulconer said in his announcement that the event brought in $135 million-plus annually to the city. "If you still don't understand how much Comic-Con means to San Diego," he said, "more Superman means more super-streets, more light sabers means more library hours, and more Comic-Con means more neighborhood services for San Diegans."
The 46th edition of Comic-Con will run July 8-12. Meanwhile, L.A. will host Comic-Con's sister confab WonderCon in 2016.
