The 'Love Is Strange' actress will play a new character who will add dynamics into the Lyon family in the upcoming sophomore season.

AceShowbiz - Marisa Tomei lands a recurring role on "Empire" for the upcoming second season. The Oscar-winning actress is tapped to play a role of Mimi Whiteman on the FOX hip-hop drama. "Welcome to #Empire, @marisatomei!" the show tweeted.

Mimi is described as a demanding venture capitalist who becomes involved with the Lyon family. The Forbes list billionaire is a lover of hip-hop, social trends, high-end fashion and beautiful women.

Season two is scheduled to be premiered on September 23. Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson return as Lucious and Cookie Lyon respectively. Adam Rodriguez plays a new love interest for Cookie whose rekindled romance with ex-husband Lucious Lyon fell apart at the end of the first season. Other guests include Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz, and Alicia Keys.
