Kevin Feige Confirms Meeting With Director Ava DuVernay for 'Black Panther'
Movie

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, admitted that he had met the 'Selma' helmer to talk about the Black Panther movie.

AceShowbiz - Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed that the studio is planning to make a deal with directors for "Black Panther" and "Captain Marvel". Feige admitted that he did meet director Ava DuVernay to talk about "Black Panther".

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Feige was asked about the studio's preparation for both superhero movies. He replied, "I think by the end of the summer, we'll have most of those things. 'Black Panther' especially."

He explained that the most important thing to do before having a film moved forward was to find a right director. Feige explained that he had met many directors, including female director DuVernay, to talk about his upcoming projects. "We've met with her for sure," Feige confirmed, referring to the "Selma" helmer.

"We've met with a number of people for a number of movies. She has been one of them... We need to find the best director for any given movie, and that's really where we always start. If diversity is part of that, it's great," Feige explained. "It's important. You will start to see things across the industry as a whole change as more filmmakers come up through the ranks and become part of making movies like this," the producer added.

Besides, Angelina Jolie has been rumored to helm "Captain Marvel". "I think it will happen sooner rather than later, without giving too much away," Feige said of having a woman directing a Marvel movie. "You look back sometimes, and it's just the nature of this industry, or the nature of the culture, but there's a big shift happening. What's exciting about Marvel, go back and look at the source material: It's been diverse in a cutting-edge way going back to the '60s, and I think we've represented that effortlessly and accurately in the movies we've made up to this point, but certainly with 'Black Panther' and 'Captain Marvel' doing it in a much more overt and purposeful way," he explained.

The producer also opened up about having a pressure on hiring female directors. "It's an issue across the industry, for sure. And the issue is, we need to find the best director for any given movie. And that's really where we always start. If diversity is part of that, it's great. It's important. You will start to see things across the industry as a whole change as more filmmakers come up through the ranks and become part of making movies like this," he said.

However, Feige seemingly wanted to give more female filmmakers an opportunity to work on big budget films. Thus, it is safe enough to speculate that both "Black Panther" and "Captain Marvel" will have female directors.
