Forest Whitaker Is on Board 'Star Wars: Rogue One', Katherine Waterston Joins 'Fantastic Beasts'

Whitaker is in negotiations to play an undisclosed role in 'Star Wars' stand-alone movie, while Waterston is set to play a U.S.-based witch in 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'.

AceShowbiz - Forest Whitaker is in negotiations to join the cast of LucasFilm's "Star Wars" stand-alone movie "Rogue One", according Variety. Though so, Whitaker's role is still unknown as of press time.

Whitaker will take part in "Rogue One" which stars Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn. Director Gareth Edwards revealed earlier that the movie would center on the heist of the Death Star plans by a group of rebel fighters. He also hinted that Jones would portray one of the rebel soldiers. Meanwhile, sources said Ahmed and Luna would also play alliance fighters.

The film will take place between "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" and "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope". It is set to be released in U.S. theaters on December 16, 2016.

In other news, a spin-off to "Harry Potter series, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", has cast Katherine Waterston as one of the female leads. Waterston will play Tina, short for Porpentina, a U.S.-based witch. She will star opposite Eddie Redmayne who is already set to play Newt Scamander, a "magiczoologist", which in the "Harry Potter" realm is a person who studies magical creatures.

Based on J.K. Rowling's book of the same title, the movie is set in New York and takes place seven decades before "Harry Potter" saga starts. David Yates returns as director while Rowling is making her feature screenwriting debut on the project. "Fantastic Beasts" is slated for a U.S. release on November 18, 2016.
