The actress who also had a recurring role on 'Person of Interest' is set to portray 20-year-old Dorothy Gale on the upcoming drama series based on 'The Wizard of Oz'.

AceShowbiz - After being scrapped and then brought back in development again, "Emerald City" is moving forward with a lead star. Adria Arjona has landed the coveted role of Dorothy Gale on the "modern and dark re-imagining of" the classic tale "The Wizard of Oz".

According to the official logline, "desperate for clues that will lead to the identity of her biological mother, a young woman breaks into a sinister underground facility somewhere in the Midwest. Unable to complete her mission and surrounded by security, our feisty heroine steals a K9 police dog and drives away into the night... and headlong into the path of a raging tornado."

"In the blink of an eye, she is transported to another world, one far removed from our own - a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you've never seen before, where wicked witches don't stay dead for long and 20-year-old Dorothy Gale becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands. You're not in Kansas anymore, and this is not your Grandmother's Oz."

The project was initially ordered to series in January 2014 with Josh Friedman and Matthew Arnold as the writers, before NBC decided not to move forward with it because the network and producers could not agree on a shared vision for the show. It was revived in April with David Schulner tapped as new writer and showrunner. Shaun Cassidy will executive produce the drama.

Arjona is best known for her role as Dani Silva on CBS' "Person of Interest". She will also star as Emily in the upcoming season 2 of HBO's anthology series "True Detective".
