Serving as actor and producer, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson hopes John Carpenter joins him in the remake 'in some capacity.'

AceShowbiz - Following the news last week that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was in negotiations to star and produce "Big Trouble in Little China" remake, Johnson recently talked about the movie in an interview with Entertainment Weekly at the Saturday night (June 6) taping of the Spike TV Guys Choice Awards. He said that he wanted to respect the original one and hoped to bring back John Carpenter to the movie.
Many fans were outraged after knowing that Carpenter's 1986 original would get a remake. They wondered why the perfect movie was going to be remade. Responding to the criticisms, The Rock said, "I loved reading the reactions from the fans, that they were so polarized - I'm the same way." He added, "My response is: know that I come to the project with nothing but love and respect for the original, which is why we want to bring on John Carpenter."
The Rock continued to comment on the remake, saying that he loved the original when he was younger. "I loved the original when I was younger and I loved the main character - all the characters," he said.
"It felt like if we surrounded ourselves with the right group of people, the right writers who loved the movie too and wanted to honor it, bring on John Carpenter in some capacity," the actor explained. "If we did that, then we have a shot at hopefully making something good." While details of the movie are still scarce, The Rock said that these initial stages were "the fun part."
In the upcoming movie, The Rock will play the 21st century version of Jack Burton. In the original, Burton is a truck driver who finds himself in San Francisco's Chinatown, and going with a friend to pick up his friend's fiancee who is being kidnapped.
Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz ("X-Men: First Class") are expected to write the remake. The movie hasn't got an exact release date, but it's expected to arrive in 2017.
In other news, The Rock has revealed a first look at his character, Bob, in his upcoming movie "Central Intelligence". In the photo, The Rock wears a yellow T-shirt with a pair of army-look cargo pants. He also revealed that Bob, while socially awkward and fond of fannypacks, is also extremely intelligent and lethal.
In "Central Intelligence", The Rock is joined by the likes of Kevin Hart, Aaron Paul and Amy Ryan. It will arrive in U.S. theaters on June 17.
