'San Andreas' Shakes Up Box Office With $53.2 Million

AceShowbiz - "San Andreas" has shaken up this weekend box office with an estimated $53.2 million debut. Starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the earthquake disaster movie also rocked the foreign box office with an impressive $60 million, bringing its global total to $113.2 million.

The big opening by "San Andreas" was the highest-ever for Dwayne in a lead role. It was more than $10 million over analysts' projections. Fifty-one percent of ticket buyers were female and most of them were over the age 25. The Brad Peyton-directed flick blew away its opening weekend competitor "Aloha", which was far behind in sixth place for Sony with approximately $10 million.

"Pitch Perfect 2" landed in the second place with nearly $14.8 million for its third weekend for a domestic total of $147.5 million. "Tomorrowland" followed behind with approximately $13.8 million while "Mad Max: Fury Road" placed No. 4 with an estimated $13.6 million. Rounding out the top five in its fifth weekend was "Avengers: Age of Ultron" with approximately $10.9 million. The sequel of "The Avengers" earned another $17.6 million internationally for a global total of $1.32 billion, including $225.5 million in China.
