The 'Spy Kids' director is tapped to direct the movie based on '60s Hanna-Barbera cartoon series for Warner Bros.

AceShowbiz - Robert Rodriguez is set to direct and co-write live-action "Jonny Quest" movie. Warner Bros. picks Robert and Terry Rossio to write a script for the movie based on a draft by Dan Mazeau. Dan Lin ("The Lego Movie") and Adrian Askarieh ("Hitman: Agent 47") will produce the movie.

Warner. Bros has developed a feature film version of the '60s Hanna-Barbera cartoon series for quite some time. Previously, multiple directors like Andy Fick ("Race to Witch Mountain), Peter Segal ("Grudge Match") and Richard Donner ("Superman") have tried to get the film off the ground.

"Jonny Quest" centers on the global adventure of Jonny, who is an 11-year-old son of scientist Dr. Benton Quest, his pal Hadji Singh and their tough and charismatic bodyguard Race Bennon. Zac Efron and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson were previously in talks to star as Jonny and Race in a movie version which was never produced.

Robert was the producer and director of "Spy Kids" film franchise, including "Spy Kids", "Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams", "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over" and "Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World". He also co-produced and co-directed two "Sin City" movies "Sin City" and "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For".
