The 50-year-old filmmaker has deleted his social media account, offering a little to no explanation about his exit.

AceShowbiz - Joss Whedon has quit Twitter. The "Avengers: Age of Ultron" director deleted his social media account on Monday, May 4, just three days after the U.S. release of the highly-anticipated movie. He offered a little to no explanation about his decision.

Before removing his Twitter account, Joss posted two final messages to his 1.15 million followers. "If I should die before I wake, 'kay," he wrote in reference to the recent release of the sequel to "The Avengers", "Now I may me down to sleep, I pray the lord my soul to keep." He added, "Thank you to all the people who've been so kind and funny and inspiring up here."

According to DigitalSpy, Joss received backlash from "Avengers" fans and critics for portraying Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow in a typical "damsel in distress" role in "Avengers: Age of Ultron". He hasn't addressed the backlash yet.

He previously "quit" Twitter as he didn't want to hear any request about another remake of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

Aside from the social media drama, Joss has a big reason to celebrate this week as "Avengers: Age of Ultron" has soared to $191.3 million in North America and has grossed $631.1 million worldwide. It scored the second highest box office debut of all-time.
