Kenny Ortega, the man behind 'High School Musical', is on board to direct and choreograph the two-hour modern-day take on the classic comedy-horror film.

AceShowbiz - After almost 40 years, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is resurrected by FOX. The network is currently developing a two-hour TV special based on the 1975 British-American musical comedy horror film directed by Jim Sharman.

The two-hour event will be directed by Kenny Ortega ("Xanadu", "High School Musical"), who will also serve as executive producer along with the original film producer Lou Adler and Gail Berman. No writer is hired for the TV special since it is expected to stick to the text and the score of the original work.

Tentatively titled "The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event", the project is described as a modern-day reimagining of the campy horror feature. Unlike FOX's upcoming special "Grease Live", the "Rocky Horror" remake will be taped.

The project is still in the early stages of development and is cast-contigent. No premiere date is set for the "Rocky Horror" remake yet.

FOX had previously attempted to adapt "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" for television in 2002, but it never came to fruition.
