The 'Theory of Everything' actor is a favorite for 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them', but Warner Brothers also considers other candidates.

AceShowbiz - Warner Brothers is zeroing in on Eddie Redmayne to headline Harry Potter spin-off "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". The actor who just won an Oscar for his role as Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything" is a favorite for the lead part.

According to a scoop from Variety, no formal offer is given to Redmayne just yet. David Yates who is expected to direct the film reportedly also considers a few other actors including Nicholas Hoult who is known for his portrayal as Beast in "X-Men" franchise.

Besides scouting the right actor for the main character Newt Scamander, Warner Bros. is casting four other main roles, two American girls and two American boys. No candidate has been named so far.

In the Potterverse, Newt Scamander is a "magiczoologist" who studies magical creatures and writes a Hogwarts textbook. The movie is set seventy years before Harry Potter's adventure starts. It's due November 18, 2016 with J.K. Rowling making her screenwriting debut.
