The wife of Chad Kroeger says she 'was bedridden for five months' after feeling lethargic and lightheaded for months.

AceShowbiz - Avril Lavigne opens up on her health struggle. The singer reveals that she was diagnosed with a severe case of Lyme disease last year after falling ill when she was in Las Vegas to celebrate her 30th birthday. "I had no idea a bug bite could do this," she said. "I was bedridden for five months."

Feeling lethargic and lightheaded for months, she believed a tick bit her sometime last spring. "I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed," she recalled to PEOPLE in its latest issue. "My friends asked, 'What's wrong?' I didn't know."

"I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move," she remembered her struggle. "I thought I was dying." She added, "There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand. It felt like having all your life sucked out of you."

Her mother moved in to help take care of her and her husband Chad Kroeger checked in on her during breaks from his tour with Nickelback. Bonding with her family, watching movies, and talking to her fans on social media helped her get through the hard times.

Without specifying her illness, she told a fan back then that she was ill. "They were asking about me since I was MIA, so I mentioned to one fan directly that I wasn't feeling good," she explained. "The get-well messages and videos they sent touched me so deeply."

Now she's "80 percent better." "This was a wake-up call," she said. "I really just want to enjoy life from here on out."
