Idris Elba In Talks to Play 'Star Trek 3' Villain

The 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom' actor has entered early negotiations to portray the main baddie in the 'Star Trek: Into Darkness' sequel.

AceShowbiz - Idris Elba is circling "Star Trek 3". According to a scoop from Variety, he is in early negotiations to play a character that will antagonize the fan-favorite USS Enterprise crew members in the third installment of the rebooted sci-fi franchise.

Details of the role that the "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" actor is going to portray are still scarce, but there have been chatters that Klingons will be the main baddie in the upcoming "Star Trek: Into Darkness" sequel.

"Star Trek 3" is produced by J.J. Abrams and directed by Justin Lin with the script written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. Pegg will also reprise his role in front of camera along with returning cast like Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana. The film is due July 8, 2016 just in time for the 50th anniversary of the franchise's debut.

Idris Elba's new film "The Gunman" is currently playing in U.S. theaters. He will next be seen in "Beasts of No Nation" and reprise his role as Heimdall in "Avengers: Age of Ultron". On top of that, he is signed on to voice Shere Khan in Disney's "The Jungle Book".
