'Pretty Little Liars' EP on 'A' Reveal in Season Finale: 'It Feels Like the Birth of a New Story'
TV

Executive producer Marlene King says while the big question has been answered, there's 'so much more story to tell between now and the end of summer.'

AceShowbiz - "Pretty Little Liars" is no longer teasing fans with who "A" is. In the season 5 finale which aired on Tuesday, March 24, the identity of the culprit was revealed, thanks to Spencer who figured out that the blocks in a play room were anagram for "A's" name.

[SPOILER ALERT!] "A's" name is Charles DiLaurentis and as Mona said, " 'A' has a soul." In an interview with E! News, executive producer Marlene King talks about the big reveal and what's next on the show.

"To me, it's a toss-up between this one and the pilot, and that's the first time I've said it. This is the first one that even comes close to me to the birth of our story," so King describes the season 5 finale. "It feels like the birth of a new story, which I really love."

She's excited to let fans know the answer to the big question, but notes, "We have so much more story to tell between now and the end of summer, and it's just this sort of straight trajectory toward the finish line. It's exciting, it feels like we've earned this closure."

Now that fans have found out who "A" is, the show will start unveiling "A's" motive. "The motivation of this 'A' has excited me as much as the identity and having these last 10 episodes to find out about the why-it's important. We've been so invested for so long in the who that it's time to start asking 'why?' " she gushes.

King says they had been "dropping little nuggets," including in season 3 when the girls saw a mime which name is Charlemagne, "which is the root name for Charles." However, she admits that she also considered two other people as the possible "A" before going with Charles DiLaurentis.

Asked whether she will reveal the other "A" candidates, King coyly replies, "I will say. When the show ends, I will say." She, moreover, reveals that Ashley Benson and Troian Bellisario had been asking that their characters became "A". "They all want to be 'A!' Except for Lucy Hale. She doesn't want to be A'.' She's never come to me and said, Can I be 'A'?' Ashley Benson and Troian Bellisario are the two who always, always, always ask to be 'A'."

To EW.com, King says the big reveal was happening this season because fans asked for it. She explains the decision to answer the big question while there's at least two more seasons for the show, "We always knew what this outcome would be. We always knew who this person would be, but we didn't know [when]. There was a feeling toward the end of last season-it really felt like we had tested their patience for as long as we could, and this is exactly what they deserve to see and the right time to tell the story."

"Pretty Little Liars" has been renewed for its sixth and seventh seasons. The new season will likely premiere this summer.
