AceShowbiz - Snoop Dogg is developing a family drama series for HBO. The rapper/actor announced the project during his keynote at the South by Southwest conference in Austin on Friday, March 20. The series is set in 1980s Los Angeles.

"HBO is the number one network in the world as far as developing and having these types of shows come to life," he said. "This is a dream come true to be able to tell a story that's going to be told the right way on the right network."

Dogg and HBO have not shared more details of the upcoming series, but Deadline reports that it "centers on a family whose seemingly idyllic life is turned upside down by the collision of their community and American politics."

Dogg teams up with Allen Hughes, Ted Chung and Rodney Barnes to executive produce the yet-to-be-titled drama. Hughes is also on board as director, with Rodney Barnes tapped to write the script.

At the SXSW panel, Dogg also shared an interesting story of getting high with Willie Nelson when they collaborated on the song "My Medicine". He went to Amsterdam, where Nelson was on tour, to work on the track. There, they smoked marijuana and then decided to get some food.

"They give us the bucket of chicken, we open it up, boom, and me and Willie stuck our hands in at the same time and we grabbed the same piece of chicken," he said to the laughing audience. "And I look at Willie, I was like, 'That's you dog, my bad.' That was one of the greatest moments in my life."
