AceShowbiz - Tom Hanks was with his son Truman in Los Altos in the San Francisco Bay Area on February 28 when they met a group of Girl Scouts on the street. Tom purchased four boxes of cookies from the girls before donating an additional $20.
One of the three girl scouts' mother, Archana Appanna, told Los Altos Town Crier, "I'm still on cloud nine. We did not know who he was at first because he covered his face with a baseball cap and glasses." Archana and the girls later realized that he was Tom and rushed up to him before catching him up in front of Linden Tree Books.

"Are you Tom Hanks?" she asked the "Cast Away" actor. He replied, "Yes." Archana and the girls then began taking pictures with Tom. A family who saw them then asked Tom for pictures too, but he told them, "Only if you buy cookies from these young ladies." Archana praised Tom, "He was so personable, so down to earth."
According to the newspaper, Tom and his son were in Los Altos to visit a typewriter shop. He initially only wanted to have Truman's typewriter repaired but ended up buying two vintage typewriters. The shop owner said, "I never realized how distinctive his voice is. It was right out of a movie."
