The Han Solo of 'Star Wars' franchise avoided a nose-dive landing as his World War II-era aircraft hit a tree on the way down.

AceShowbiz - Harrison Ford reportedly broke his ankle and pelvis when his single-engine plane crash-landed in a Santa Monica golf course Thursday, March 5. He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery about four hours after the incident, a source close to the family told KTLA.

The "Star Wars" actor experienced engine failure about 20 minutes after taking off from Santa Monica Municipal Airport and requested an emergency return to the airport. He fell short of reaching the runway and crashed-landed the aircraft in a nearby golf course.

His vintage World War II training plane hit a tree on the way down, preventing it from going into a nose-dive. Doctors who were playing golf at the time rushed to his rescue and pulled him out of the wreckage when they smelled fuel out of fear it might explode.

Harrison was taken to a nearby hospital in a "fair to moderate condition" with multiple gashes to his head and cuts to his arms. The injuries "are not life threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery," his representative said. "Thank you all for your thoughts and good vibes for my dad," his son Ben tweeted.

Harrison's wife, Calista Flockhart, looked distraught when she was spotted with the couple's youngest son Dylan in the neighborhood of Brentwood on Friday driving a car.

Prayers and well wishes are pouring in for the Han Solo depicter and his family. William Shatner, who is still mourning his "Star Trek" co-star Leonard Nimoy, tweeted, "Thoughts going out to Harrison Ford for a speedy recovery." He added, "Harrison had a door fall on him and he continued filming; he's tough!" referring to an accident in which he broke his leg on the set of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" last year.

Meanwhile, Mark Hamill who reprises his role as Luke Skywalker in the upcoming film sent a light-hearted message to his co-star, "Glad to hear Harrison is doing well. Get well soon. May all his future flights be green-screen!" An amusing message also came from actress Olivia Wilde who jokingly scolded the action movie star, "Harrison! Stop showing off!"
