The British songstress has also revealed that she almost met the legendary singer, whom she says helped her to become who she is, on the day she was found dead in her hotel room.

AceShowbiz - Jessie J paid a musical tribute to Whitney Houston when she recently brought her "Sweet Talker" tour to London's Brixton Academy. For the three-year anniversary of the superstar's death, the British songbird showed off her powerful vocals as she covered her 1993 hit song "I Have Nothing".

Prior to performing the acoustic-driven rendition, Jessie told the crowd how she owed her career to Houston, who died at the Beverly Hilton hotel in 2012. "Ten years ago this year, I was 16 years old and I auditioned for a girl band at the BRIT School," she said.

"And the next song I'm going to sing is that song I sang at that very audition. Whitney Houston gave me the strength to believe in myself, she showed me it was OK to be loud, she showed me it was OK to really live inside of your voice, and 10 years on I'm so grateful for that very audition because it got me here today. So thank you Whitney Houston," she added.

Jessie also revealed in an interview that she almost met her idol Houston at a pre-Grammys party held on the day the "Bodyguard" actress passed away. She recalled that Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown came to her during a rehearsal for the party and said her mother wanted to meet her.

"I thought all day I was going to meet my idol... then I remember finding out she'd passed away. I ended up going from thinking I'd meet her to almost singing at her funeral," she explained.
