The newly-greenlit miniseries centering on the rise and fall of Madoff, the infamous financier who's sentenced to 150 years in prison, will be based on a book by ABC's correspondent Brian Ross.

AceShowbiz - Richard Dreyfuss has been tapped to star on a new ABC miniseries about Bernie Madoff. The Oscar-winning actor is set to portray the infamous financier who was convicted of fraud in the Ponzi scheme that is considered to be the largest financial fraud in U.S. history.

The series, simply called "Madoff", is inspired by ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross' book "The Madoff Chronicles: Inside the Secret World of Bernie and Ruth". The drama will cover the rise and fall of Madoff who was sentenced to 150 years in prison back in 2009.

The project is executive produced by Linda Berman and Joe Pichirallo. Ben Robbins ("Strays") is penning the script. More details including premiere date and the specific number of episodes have yet to be revealed.

Dreyfuss won an Oscar for "The Goodbye Girl" in 1977. He was nominated again for "Mr. Holland's Opus" almost two decades later. He most recently worked with Danny Masterson and Danny Glover in the comedy "Killing Winston Jones" that's slated to be released in June.
