Maddie Walker and Loren Lott make it to the Top 48, while Alexis Granville gets cut after singing in the wrong key.

AceShowbiz - "American Idol" narrowed down the number of contestants to 48 after a solo round. Loren Lott was the first to sing in the Thursday, February 12 episode. Her rendition of Adele's "Skyfall" was nearly flawless as Jennifer Lopez gave her a standing ovation. While the result was not immediately announced, it's almost certain that she would make it through.

Quentin Alexander's unique take on "Riptide" won over the judges. Country girl Maddie Walker also sealed her place in the Top 48 when singing "Don't Ya", and so did Michael Simeon whom Harry Connick Jr. praised, "He's getting better every time."

Meanwhile, Nick Fradiani earned rave reviews for his soulful and mature version of "Babylon". Clark Beckham traded his guitar for keyboard, but still impressed the judges with his cover of "Try a Little Tenderness".

Those who failed to deliver good performance included Big Ron, Shi Scott and Adam Lasher. Alexis Granville, who just recovered from an anxiety attack the day before, started in the wrong key and Harry told her to start over. She was still off in her second attempt and Harry cut it, saying, "One time is excusable, two times just isn't."

After what Harry called "some really brutal cuts," Jess Lamb, Alex Shier, Naomi Tatsuoka and Piper Jones joined Alexis to get sent packing. Joey Cook, Lovey James, Rayvon Owen, Riley Bria and Tyanna Jones, meanwhile, made it to the Top 48.

Next week, the remaining contestants will sing in a private concert at the House of Blues in West Hollywood before being cut to 24.
