Charlie Sheen Defends Brian Williams After NBC Suspension

The 'Anger Management' star says the 'Nightly News' anchor is the victim of 'vile witch hunt' and calls the network's bosses 'hooligans, non coms, cowards and oligarchs.'

AceShowbiz - Amid all criticisms directed toward Brian Williams, Charlie Sheen has come to the defense of the embattled NBC journalist. On late Wednesday, February 11, the actor posted on TwitLonger a lengthy message as he weighed in on the issue.

The former "Two and a Half Men" star first thanked Williams "for 24 years of inimitable professionalism and top shelf brilliance" and praised him "as a stone cold passion driven and (PERFECTLY) fact based journalist." He added, "You good sir, are a hero in my 'Entire Library'."

Sheen also slammed NBC News' bosses who recently decided to suspend Williams in light of the controversy he caused with his exaggerating Iraq story. "You are clearly the victim of a transparent and vile witch hunt!" Sheen wrote, "Erroneously 'staged' by hooligans, non coms, cowards and oligarchs, who's only desperate and hideous goal is to discredit the genius that they relied on for almost 3 decades!"

Williams has been suspended from NBC for six months without pay as the network is still investigating his claim that the helicopter he was riding in back in 2003 in Iraq was hit by an RPG. He told a different version of the experience back in March 2003, saying on "Dateline", "On the ground, we learn the Chinook ahead of us was almost blown out of the sky."

Actor Patrick Wilson and author Stephen King were among the few people who have supported Williams. The former tweeted, "So Brian Williams is suspended for 6 months? ASININE & RIDICULOUS. We were lied to about a WAR...and those folks seem to get off just fine," while the latter posted on his own Twitter, "Brian Williams: Suspended 6 months. George Dubya ('Chemical weapons in Iraq--EEK!') $200,000 per year in pension benefits. America, kids."
