The animated movie wins at the weekend box office after collecting an estimated $56 million, while 'Jupiter Ascending' and 'Seventh Son' are placed third and fourth.

AceShowbiz - "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" wins the crown at the weekend box office. The animated movie has edged out "American Sniper", which had reigned at the chart for three weeks in a row, with an estimated $56 million in North America. "Sniper" now is placed second after collecting approximately $24.2 million.

"This movie played a little bit older than we initially thought it would," said Megan Colligan, president of worldwide distribution and marketing for Paramount, to the Associated Press. "It's a real tribute to Nickelodeon and the strength of the brand and how well they manage the brand. It's a beloved character that teenagers love from their childhood."

Apart from the "SpongeBob" movie, there are two other newcomers on the top five. The third place is taken by second newcomer "Jupiter Ascending". The sci-fi flick starring Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis and Eddie Redmayne among others collected an estimated $19 million with $176 million budget.

The other newcomer is fantasy film "Seventh Son". Starring Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore and Kit Harington among others, it is placed fourth with approximately $7 million. "Paddington", meanwhile, slips two rungs to the fifth spot after collecting an estimated $5.4.

Last week's second placer "Project Almanac" falls to the sixth spot in its second week with approximately $5.3 million. Alan Turing biopic "The Imitation Game", which is in contention for Best Picture award at the Oscars, keeps its position steady at No. 7 after collecting an estimated $4.9 million. Comedy "The Wedding Ringer" slips two rungs from last week's sixth spot with $4.8 million. "Black or White" starring Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer and Anthony Mackie dives to the ninth place from last week's fourth spot. Jennifer Lopez's "The Boy Next Door" rounds out the top ten.
