Paparazzi were not to blame for the multiple car crash since they were across the Pacific Coast Highway, where the accident took place on Saturday, February 7.

AceShowbiz - Much contrary to earlier reports, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that paparazzi were not to blame in the fatal car crash that Bruce Jenner was involved in over the weekend. The former Olympian did tell authorities he was chased by photographers, but "as of right now, there is no indication that Bruce Jenner was being chased by paparazzi at the time of the crash," the spokesman confirmed to Gossip Cop.

"There was a possibility that paparazzi was following him at the time of the crash, but that is a very regular occurrence, and [there's] no indication at this time it was a contributing factor of the crash," the spokesman explained further. In line with the confirmation, a source has told PEOPLE that while the accident took place at the Pacific Coast Highway, paparazzi were across the street when the unfortunate occurred. Thus, they were not to blame.

Sgt. Philip Brooks from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff Station, meanwhile, confirmed that "Mr. Jenner was aware that the paparazzi were following him and he wasn't taking any evasive actions. There was no evidence of paparazzi driving inappropriately." He also added that there was "nothing unusual" in Bruce being chased by the paparazzi that day.

And while various reports have emerged on the possible causes of the car crash, ranging from Bruce texting while driving to he was smoking cigarette, authorities are still investigating what caused the accident. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reportedly has started a vehicular manslaughter investigation that will involve all parties involved in the multi-vehicle crash.
