The streaming giant is reportedly in early stages of developing a new series, which is described as 'Game of Thrones' for a family audience, based on the popular videogame.

AceShowbiz - Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda" could be coming to Netflix. The streaming service is said to have been in the early stages of developing a live-action series based on the popular videogame series.

According to The Wall Street Journal which first reported the news, Netflix is still looking for a writer to work on the project. The potential new series is described as " 'Game of Thrones' for a family audience" as the games included swords and sorcery like the hit HBO series.

"Zelda" live-action series will follow a young boy named Link who must rescue Princess Zelda and save Hyrule.

Netflix declined to comment on the report, while a Nintendo spokesman said the company "doesn't comment on rumors and speculation."

"Legend of Zelda" was turned in to an animated series which aired on syndication and ran for just one season in 1989.
