Lindsay Lohan and Mom Dina Sue Fox News for Defamatory Comment About Cocaine Use
TV

The 'Canyons' actress and her mother claim they were smeared on the network when commentator Michelle Fields said on Sean Hannity's show that Lindsay and Dina snorted coke together.

AceShowbiz - Lindsay Lohan and her mother Dina Lohan sue Fox News, TV host Sean Hannity and commentator Michelle Fields for defamation. The daughter-mother duo filed the papers in Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday, February 2, claiming Fields "falsely, inappropriately and shockingly stated, unequivocally and as a 'matter of fact' that 'Lindsay Lohan's mother is doing cocaine with her.' "

The comment was made February 4, 2014 on Hannity's TV show during which Hannity and his guests were discussing celebrities who had died of ODs, including Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole Smith, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley. At the time, Fields said, "Lindsay Lohan's mom is doing cocaine with her."

"Fields made the false, defamatory, heartless, derogatory comment in the context of the show's topic... (It) was a direct smear on the character/reputation of (the Lohans) ... (and it) was a totally irresponsible and malicious innuendo ... (that) Lindsay Lohan might become the next celebrity to join the obituary list," the papers say.

Fox News already sent an apology letter to the lawyer for Lindsay and Dina a year ago, stating that the segment in question had been removed from the network's website. However, the suit says that the channel didn't fulfill their promise. The actress and her mom ask for the segment to be taken off the website permanently and are seeking unspecified punitive damages.

A rep for Fox has no comment on the issue and says that they have not been served with the suit.
