Tom DeLonge Responds to Blink-182 Mates' Accusations: All of This Makes Me 'Really Sad'

The co-lead vocalist still denies his departure, saying that he just finds it 'hard as hell to commit' to working with the group again as he still has other projects.

AceShowbiz - Blink-182 shocked fans when they said on Monday, January 26 that Tom DeLonge had "indefinitely" quit the band. Fans were later left confused when DeLonge himself denied his departure. His pals Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker then detailed what actually happened between them and the vocalist whom they called "ungrateful" and "disrespectful" in a tell-all interview with Rolling Stone.

DeLonge has now taken to Facebook to respond to the other two Blink-182 members' statements. In lengthy "Letter to the Fans," the 39-year-old musician defended himself against Hoppus and Barker's claims that he's been very difficult to work with.

DeLonge said, "I've tried to help move this band down 50 different paths using my people, or other people, and people we don't even know. I tried to put forth ideas about how we can grow and challenge ourselves to become a better band. I'm not sitting around waiting for someone else to do the work."

He went on revealing that he had tried to regroup the trio through a personal summit in Utah. "What I hoped would be a positive get-together away from everything turned into an awkward meeting in a smelly convention hall dressing room. But it was there that I told Mark and Travis that as long as we talked, and things were good between us as real friends, that I would be engaged and work passionately," he explained.

Elsewhere in his lengthy letter, DeLonge denies accusations that he purposefully delayed the recording of Blink-182's new album. He said that while the band was searching for a partner to support their new record, he launched a media company and worked on the projects with his other band Angels & Airwaves.

He admitted to being frustrated when he's handed "a 60-page Blink contract saying I couldn't release an Angels album for 9 months and that the Blink album had to be recorded in 6 months, which was impossible for me." He said, "Doing so would force me to breach several artist contracts. Authors, Concept Artists, Animators... Many people."

DeLonge concluded his letter saying that the drama made him "really sad." "I know [Hoppus and Barker] very well, and their current actions are defensive and divisive," he continued. "I suppose they're doing this as a way to protect themselves from being hurt."

"And even as I watch them act so different to what I know of them to be, I still care deeply for them. Like brothers, and like old friends. But our relationship got poisoned yesterday," he added. "Never planned on quitting, just find it hard as hell to commit."
