The 'Whiplash' actor will be joined by the reclusive singer on the January 31 episode of 'Saturday Night Live', the night before the 49th annual Super Bowl on NBC.

AceShowbiz - J.K. Simmons is tapped as a host for an upcoming episode of "Saturday Night Live". The actor will serve as an emcee for the January 31 edition with reclusive R&B singer D'Angelo and his band The Vanguard serving as a musical guest.
D'Angelo is expected to perform songs from his new album "Black Messiah". His TV performance will be followed by a headlining show at New York's Apollo Theater on February 7. A few days later, the singer will kick off a European tour in Zurich, Switzerland.
Simmons just won a Golden Globe for his performance as a troubled jazz instructor in the movie "Whiplash". He is also vying for the title of Best Supporting Actor at the upcoming 87th annual Academy Awards set to be held on February 22.
Meanwhile, "SNL" will welcome Blake Shelton next weekend. The country music crooner is set to pull double as host as well as musical guest for the January 24 episode of the NBC long-running series. The gig will mark the first time he appears on the show.
